Premstaetten, Austria, and Munich, Germany (May 21, 2024) -- Energy-efficient LED solutions are important levers that greenhouse operators can use to save energy. Upgrading to LED lighting pays off, leading to significant efficiency enhancements and thus cost benefits. ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, has now launched its OSCONIQ® P 3737, a high-power LED equipped with state-of-the-art chip technology that offers industry-leading performance with an overall wall plug efficiency (WPE) of 83.2 % in Hyper Red, outstanding robustness and a long lifetime.
Optimum light intensity with lower energy costs: comparative savings with the OSCONIQ® P 3737
With the new OSCONIQ® P 3737 from ams OSRAM, energy costs in greenhouses can be significantly reduced without compromising on light output ratio (LOR). Thanks to the LED’s market-leading overall wall plug efficiency of 83.2 % in Hyper Red, manufacturers of horticultural luminaires can redesign their fixtures to achieve a higher photon flux of 6.13 µmol/s with lower energy consumption. This results in a significant increase in the photosynthesis rate (PS rate), maximizes crop yields, and shortens harvest cycles.
Here's a simple cost calculation: With its overall efficiency of 83.2 %, the new OSCONIQ® P 3737 Hyper Red can achieve 11 % energy savings, which is great progress compared to previous-generation LEDs with an overall efficiency of 74 %. With the same photon flux, this corresponds to € 11 per € 100 spent. For a medium-sized greenhouse with annual electricity costs of more than € 100,000, vegetable, flower, and other growers can save € 11,000 per year by installing the latest LED lighting technology.* In addition, higher photon flux levels have the potential to result in more biomass and shorter crop cycles. Tests have shown that the LED still delivers 90 % of its original light output even after 102,000 operating hours. This means that the OSCONIQ® P 3737 has the longest lifetime of all LEDs for horticultural fixtures.
*Depending on the energy costs and system parameters
The OSCONIQ® P 3737 is the perfect choice for use as a greenhouse top light, as interlighting between rows of plants or flowers, as sole-source lighting or as lighting in vertical farming applications. It is available in five colors: Hyper Red (660 nm), Red (640 nm), Deep Blue (450 nm), Far Red (730 nm) and Horti White, covering the broad spectrum of requirements in controlled horticulture.
ams OSRAM to present its market-leading LED portfolio at GreenTech Amsterdam 2024
From June 11 to 13, ams OSRAM will showcase its market-leading LED portfolio and advanced sensor solutions for horticulture at GreenTech Amsterdam, the global meeting place for investors and professionals involved in horticulture technology. In the Vertical Farming Pavilion (Hall 05, Stand 370VF), experts from ams OSRAM will guide visitors through the latest product highlights and answer any questions about simple, smart, and sustainable cultivation of crops.
Together with Inventronics, one of its customers, ams OSRAM will showcase a new demo board at GreenTech: “Inventronics uses the OSCONIQ® P 3737 for its pioneering Horticulture LED Module P 3737 demo board for plant growers and greenhouse operators—and we are very excited that our visitors will have the possibility to discover it at GreenTech”, emphasized Dr. Alexander Hoffmann, Head of PL Grow & Industry at ams OSRAM. “Fitted with LEDs from our high-power OSCONIQ product family, the 4-channel board from Inventronics allows greenhouse operators to achieve cost savings while enhancing performance, even in harsh environments.”
The power levels of these drivers go up to 1800 W, with solutions for 120-277 V AC and 277-480 V AC. Notably, Inventronics boasts the largest range of DALI-2 D4i drivers on the market today, ensuring a wide variety of options to suit any lighting requirement. The roadmap includes the 4-channel 1200 W driver providing full bi-directional control over a digital interface, featuring a high efficiency of 96 % and power sharing technology allowing the separate allocation of power to each of the channels. This innovative technology signifies a major leap towards digital lighting in horticulture applications.
The new horticulture demo board will be shown at the booth of Inventronics (05.413) as well as at the ams OSRAM booth in the Vertical Farming Pavilion (Hall 05, Stand 370VF).
